Summary of Medical Question:

High fever

Posted by:

frenie

I have high fever from the past one week...my fever ranges from 99 to 102. all my tests were fine(they included blood, urine, lungs, heart). I have been presribed with macral 250 as i am allergic to most antibiotics. I am taking those antibiotics the course of which completes on tuesday yet i had 102 fever today. I suffer from diabetes (Type 2) and hypothyroid. can someone advice

Answer by voluntary user(s)

Frenie, first and foremost is to ensure that blood sugar and thyroid hormones are controlled. Second, the tests may be repeated and further management depends on your location. For example in India, malaria and typhoid are quite common, so I would advice peripheral smear for malarial parasite and blood culture for typhoid besides routine tests. After giving samples for tests, I would like to prescribe stat dose of antimalrial (like metakelfin) and start a course of antibiotic effective against typhoid- like ciprofloxacin. Further management depends on the test reports. Pl consult a medical specialist.

ivf tretment cost and taken time

Posted by:

Gopal prasad

our wife firts time pregnent-2001 but 5 after five month child deth and take aborsation then after one find out her both tube are block.please guide me how many cost expenses and how much time taken in this treatment.

Answer by voluntary user(s)

Gopal, if both the tubes are blocked, natural conception is not possible. The surgery to maintain the patency of tubes is also complicated and success chances are less. One option is IVF. This is also a long process. Every month ultrasonogrphy will be done, ova will be taken out from ovary and fertilization will be tried. This is expensive and time consuming method may cost few lacs with no guarantee. It is suitable for rich people, Another option is to adopt a nice baby.

Answer by voluntary user(s)

Congratulations for leaing tobacco. You need to get your oral cavity examined by a doctor. For general health you can get preventive/ executive health check up done in any private hospital like Apollo, Fortis or Max. They generally charge Rs. 4 to 5,000 for the package.

5 year old grandson has been diagnosed for a viral infection twice in the last 6 to 8 weeks. Has headaches, diarreah, vomiting and fever. The symptons come and go and some more than others. If not a viral infection what else can it be ? All swab ,urine and blood test come back negitive except his blood count was up to 13000.

Answer by voluntary user(s)

High blood count (TLC) indicates infection. Besides viral it could be bacterial infection. Since other tests are normal, little diffcult to comment. If the general condition of the child is not improving, in my opinion get the tests repeated and give a trial course of a broad spectrum antibiotic like amoxycillin with clavulanic acid. Pl consult your pediatrician.

DOROTHY

MY ORTHOPOD HAS BEEN TREATING ME FOR 3 MONTHS, CORTIS INJECT. ULTRASOUND, OCC THER. WRIST SPLINTS, NOTHING IS HELPING, I HAVE TERRIBLE PAIN IN FORARM GOING DOWN TO MIDDLE FINGER. SURGERY???

Answer by voluntary user(s)

Dorothy, we do appreciate you are in agony and your pain is not reducing, but no need to feel helpless. If you are not satisfied with one doctor, try another, try third one. You will definitely get in touch with a genuine and competent doctor who will facilitate your recovery and cure. If you provide us detailed history- when and how the problem started. What is the spread of pain, loss of sensation and loss of power. relation of pain with movements etc, we will try to analyze the problem and guide you.
_____________________________________________________

Dorothy, it depends on the site of entrapment of nerve and severity of symptoms- besides pain, loss of sensation in affected area and loss of power in affected muscles. The condition requires careful physical examination by an orthopedic surgeon. If there is no relief by coservative treatment, surgery can be done.

Sometimes itching (pruritis) occurs due to internal defect of body systems(auto Immune deficiency) and there is no definite cure for this. Use tepid water for bath. Avoid scratching whenever possible. Gradually it may settle down. Consult a skin specialist/ dermatologist

My Friend told me that i have Amoeba in my stomach, what should i do?
Is this possible?

Answer by voluntary user(s)

You also tell him the same and see what he does. Jokes apart, If you feel there are worms, you can take antiworm tabs like Zentel- one. If you have loose motions, it may require antiamoebic drugs.

The problem may not be cured but it can be definitely controlled. You have to take dietary precautions and motions might be reduced to 1-2/ day. Use very light small diets- without oils and spices. Don't eat from outside. Take a course of antiamoebics- metranidazole for one week (if not taken earlier). Thereafter, take capsule ocid- one in the morning daily and cap providac one thrice daily and report after 3 days.
