Headache

Posted by:

Sue

My partner has had a headache for 3 weeks which he describes as a constant dull ache located in the frontal lobe area, that develops into a stabbing pain when he coughs or has an asthma attack. During the last week he has had a nose bleed a day. He says that he feels like the blood is leaking from the pain into his head & it fills up & leaks out of his nose. The blood is red not dark. He hasn't taken any pain medication & is fearful of dr's & hospitals. What could be wrong & how can I help him?

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

Sue, it would be better if your partner is investigated to rule out any disorder of brain or blood vessels. MRI of brain may be done. 1- 2 tablets of paracetamol may be given to him for pain. Consult a neurologist.

Summary of Medical Question:

Tooth knocked by cricket ball

Posted by:

Cricketer Man

Hi, I was playing cricket on the nets when a fast delivery passed the helmet and completely removed my lower tooth. It wasn't very painful and the bleeding stopped next day.

Apart from it looking a bit weird, should I be concerned? And what are my options? Can I get a new tooth fixed there?

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

Cricket Man, If immediately the same tooth is implanted, chances of success are high. With the passage of time success rate declines. In that case removable artificial tooth can be fixed.

Answer by voluntary user(s)

Ok doctor, I'll go and get a new tooth implanted. Thank you for your prompt help. This is a very helpful web site. Thanks

Hi,
I am tushar Bhangale B.E computer student passed out in January 2005
but still i do not have a single job and the reasons are as follows.

1. I can not talk in group of people( public fear). I always think
that what the other person will think about me. I never participated
in any social activities, even if any social function is going on
anywhere i always avoid to go there.

2. when i was in english speaking class and when my teacher gave some
topic for Group discussion then i can not deliver a single word, even
if i know something i can not speak.when teacher tells us to come with
prepartion tomorrow then i do not go in that class on that day.

3.VERY IMPORTANT. I never understand any topic or subject conceptually
when i was in school and college also. due to this i always mug up
that topic without understanding, resultanly i am good in writing
theory paper but when it comes to performing practical then i can not
perform. frankly telling the college where i have taken my degree is
local college and hence i was able to pass the practical otherwise i
will never if the college was outside.

4. sex---- is also one of weakness, while doing study or anytime,
anywhere a sex desire comes in my mind and i get disturb very much.
i like to travel in crowdy places like buses, trains where i can get
in touch with some lady. as soon as that lady or girl touches me,
somethng happenes to me and i get very excited.
please forgive me but it is truth, now a days i was suffering from
strange habbit means suppose i was travelling in bus, a lady came and
stands before me, and imagine the situation that her backside portion
is touching to my pennis, then on that day i was very excited, this
happens many times when i was in pune and i used to enjoy it
eventhough my innervoice was telling me that it is not good. like this
there are many cases which disturbs me

5. INTERVIEWS----- i have always fear about interviews and always
think that i will never perform in interviews well. so many times i go
to interview places but never attend that and when asked by friend
then i told them that i attend that interview but not selected. now
already due to this i have wasted 4 years and nowadays i am veru
worried about myself. i did not tell this things to my friends or in
home.

Answer by voluntary user(s)

Hi Tushar, from the symptoms you describe, it sounds like you may be experiencing social phobia. If there is a history of panic attacks you may be experiencing panic disorder. While it is true that the majority of people feel uncomfortable about being negatively judged or criticised, if you develop numerous ways of avoiding social interactions, you actually reinforce the phobia resulting in it getting worse. Treatment generally involves exposure, applied relaxation, social skills training and cognitive resturcturing. It sounds like you have a strong sense of family & duty, unfortunately increased stress generally makes symptoms worse. Please see a psychologist who can help you with long-term coping strategies.
_____________________________________________________

Tushar, I read your mail carefully. I did not find anything abnormal. What ever signs you have enumerated are normal. All of us have got these feelings but majority among us are able to control the feelings that are not socially acceptable. The only problem with you is lack of confidence. The most important thing is only you can help yourself. You have to coomunicate and communicate, and communicate. There is no other way. Don't worry what the others will think. Let them think what they want to. You only focus on communication. Few times there will be difficulties but once you are able to comunicate effectively, you will gain confidence. Prepare and reherse in advance. You are going to be successful. I am sure.

toenail

Posted by:

I just kicked a spring loaded footrest and it didn't lock into place but kicked back at my toe and took off all of the nail except for a tiny bit of skin at the base. What do I do? I am not in much pain surprisingly.

Answer by voluntary user(s)

Karen, clean the toe with antiseptic solution, dry it and apply soft bandage to prevent any further injury. It seems the nail bed is safe and gradually the nail will grow. Nothing to worry.

Summary of Medical Question:

Help diagnose this problem?

Posted by:

Jennie

A friend of mine began having breathing problems on Saturday night. He said it felt like he couldn't get enough air. He felt dizzy and at one point even said his left arm felt a little numb. The thing is, we were sitting perfectly still and watching a movie. There were no stressful physical activities involved.

On Sunday he seemed to be feeling better, but ever since Monday night he has been having the same breathing problems, possibly worse.

He says he feels like he is dying, because he has to constantly concentrate on breathing. He's unable to focus on anything else and it often strains him to talk, but the seriousness of it fluctuates a bit.

He went to a doctor who told him he had anxiety problems and gave him some sort of medicine along with Lunesta to help him sleep (having to concentrate on breathing made it difficult to sleep too).

He says that nothing is actually stressing him out, despite the fact that he is showing signs of anxiety.

What do you think is wrong with him?

He's taking the pills the doctor gave him but still feels like he must concentrate on breathing all of the time.

Answer by voluntary user(s)

Jennie, It seems to be serious problem and not merely due to anxiety. The heart and lungs need to be assessed by physical examination (blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate etc) and investigations. X-ray chest, ECG, blood count etc should be done immediately. Refer to a Internal Medicine specialist or Chest Specialist or Pulmonologist.

My mother is a treated case of ovarian cancer(surgery & chemotherapy done in 2005).Recently her CA 125 has risen to 38.3.CT Abdomen is normal. She feels all right.Do you feel a PET Scan is necessary?

Answer by voluntary user(s)

Deblina, if serial CA 125 tests reports show high values, it gives an indication that there is likelyhood of carcinogenic activity in the body. But it is not 100% sure. Physical examination and ultrasonography are required to diagnose. Please consult a gynecologist.

tinnitus

Posted by:

major rohit bhandari

i m working as a officer in the indian army .exposure to loud noise because of firing in the near quaters has resulted in tinnitus inmy right ear.is there any cure for the same ?pls reccomend the best solution possible ?

Answer by voluntary user(s)

Major, my first reaction is - change the job. MRI may be done to rule out any cancer. You may use ear plug whenever there is noise. There is no definite treatment for tinnitus. However, it may go on its own, but sometimes causes deafness with which one has to learn to live.
