Summary of Medical Question:

fish boan

Posted by:

Jaspa

Help! my girlfrind swallowed a fish boan last night and its still stuck in her throat this morning, she said its definetly in there and not just a scratch coz she can feel it move when she swallows. what shouold i do?! she wont go to a doctor

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

Jaspa, it is quite possible that a peice of bone is stuck up in her throat. Sharp bony peiece is capable of piercing vital tissues or enter the respiratory tract and can cause complications. Considering the risk it is advised to take her to a ENT (otorhinolaryngiology) surgeon. He will be able to visualize inside of throat and take the piece out with a forceps. If the piece is quite deep the client can be anesthetized. There is also a possibility that the piece may get dislodged on its own while coughing or sneezing and may enter digestive system and get digested. But, considering the risk of complications, please take her to a doctor.

Summary of Medical Question:

peripheral nerve daage

Posted by:

colin curtis

AS AN ADDITION TO MY TWO PREVIOUS ENQUIRIES MIGHT I ADD THAT my friend is being prescribed increasing dosages (100mg) per day at present, of morphine and pregabalin.
is it possible you might have access to a surgeon available to offer a second opinion on the subject and clarify whether such a side effect from stomach hernia repair would be likely, or is it case of some form of negligence on the part of the surgery staff here.
my friend has been told the recuperation period for her nerve damage will be atleast 2 years.
thank you.

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

Colin, which type of hernia was it- epigastric, umblical? (other types are femoral, inguinal, incisional, diaphgramatic) and what was the size and any symptoms or complication before surgery? This information may help us understand the situation. These drugs may help relieve pain for a couple of weeks after the surgery. But, not for a very long time. If there is no swelling, no pus formation, no bowel disturbance (stools are normal) the pain is not likely to be due to the fault of surgeon. In every surgery some nerves get severed unintentionally and surgeon may have no control over it. It is a matter of chance that a nerve that had wider ramification got damaged. With the passage of time certainly there will be improvement in pain or numbness.

Summary of Medical Question:

nerve damage

Posted by:

colin curtis

in regard to my previous queston regarding peripheral nerve damage during an surgery for stomach heria repair i include the following statistics as requested in your answer to my query. :-
age 56.
sex female.
blood sugar history- normal.
blood pressure- normal.
surgery procedure- mesh.
post surgery events-excruciating pain on wakening from anaesthesia.relieved by ongoing increases of morphine patch.
nerve damage extending from beneath left rib cage and extending across the stomach to-and including-the right rib cge

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

Colin, in case of inguinal hernia repair pain in groin or thighs is a common side effect. In case of upper hernias (hiatus hernia or umblical hernia) post surgery pain is less common. However the affected area mentioned by you i.e. upper abdomen both sides seems to be as a result of the surgery. Please consult a surgeon. This site is relevant:

Summary of Medical Question:

angina treatment

Posted by:

GRACE DUKES

do you have any information on the use of zinc to treat angina? if so what are the dosages?

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

Grace, there are indications that zinc reduces atherosclerosis and therefore angina. Trials are going on. But, it has not been conclusively proved and accepted by medical fraternity as a definitive therapy for angina. You may try 60 mg zinc sulphate thrice a day for two weeks. Very high dose for longer duration may cause copper deficiency. For more details refer to site:

Summary of Medical Question:

low libido

Posted by:

mikes

I am 42 yrs old and my problem is getting a full erection and even if I do, it rarely remains truly erect for more than a couple of minutes. Thinking back to when I was 20 I had the same difficulties then(though to a lesser extent).
This problem was perhaps the main reason my wife and I recently separated.I have tried viagra and it gave no improvement.
My question is, should I try
testeserone boosters(as advertised on the web) as I am becoming very worried about my future sexual encounters.
Thanks.

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

Mikes, testosterone is not likely to give any benefit. However, there is also no harm if you try one- two shots. Viagra will help if you take it few hours before the intercourse. You can also take vitamin B complex- especially B12 and folic acid regularly. Secondly, you may try an elastic band at the base of penis during intercourse. Ensure that it is comfortable and not too tight. The band prevents drainage of blood from erect penis.

BB gunshot

Posted by:

D

I got shot in the finger point blank with a bb pistol. What are the chances the bb is in my finger? Could it have bounced back out?

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

D, it depends whether their is exit point of the bullet or not. If it is not there the bullet can be inside. If it is there the pain may persist and healing may be delayed but, not necessarily. You may get an x -ray of the finger- AP and lateral views to confirm the presence of bullet in it.
