Summary of Medical Question:

Percocet + Valium

Posted by:

Bob

I currently have a legitimate prescription for both valium and Triazolam. I have had some serious dental work done recently and was given percocet to take for a few days while my gums heal.

I read to make sure and ask a doctor before combining valium and percocet, so I stopped taking anything but hte percocet for a few days.

The pain is gone now (and the percocet is gone). I took the last one day before yesterday- is it safe to start taking the valium again at 4mg twice a day?

Thank you!

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

Bob, if there is no pain and no problem in getting sleep, there is no need to take valium. Valium is a narcotic drug and has a tendancy for addiction. Why should you be dependent on a drug. You should be independent. Stop unnecessary medication.

Answer by voluntary user(s)

I have a legitimate prescription to the Valium, you have no place telling me I don't have a need to take it. What an odd response. I would encourage others to not take medical advice from this site- my question was not even answered.

Josh, first suspeciaon goes to hemorrhoids or piles. Please get it examined by a general surgeon and take the treatment. Use condoms to prevent transmission of infections.

any idea what is wrong?

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

David, it seems to be a serious problem. Please take her to a hospital. Blood in vomiting may indicate peptic ulcer or acute pancreatitis. Blood in sputum needs tuberculosis (TB) to be ruled out. If blood is primarily in vomiting, please refer to a general surgeon. For cough with blood in sputum please refer to specialist of Internal Medicine or Chest Specialist.

Summary of Medical Question:

skin allergy

Posted by:

Lata Bordoloi

Hello Sir,

The question that i am asking is a very serious question for me. Plez help me find a permanent solution to the problem. Since 1995 i have been suffering from skin allergy which has grown quite chronic till date. I have taken a whole lot of treatments for this since 1995 including both homeopathic and allopathic treatements but none of them have helped me to give permanent cure for the problem. Now i am at a great distress. So, plez help me out. Below i give a detailing of the nature of the problem that i am suffering:

My whole face and neck is covered with small small blisters covered with sticky pus which all give the sensation of burning and excessive itching. My whole body remains very hot all the time. Allergy persists all the year around and it aggravates with certain foods.

The allergy is such that i have to keep it under control by applying certain topical creams prescribed by my physicians previously. the allergy seems to subside for a day or two, then as the effect of the cream is over, blisters starts again and my whole face and neck gets very itchy once again which is very unbearable for me.

Since the start of this problem i have noticed that i have gained weight which i feel is not the natural way of gaining weight. I feel it has happened so only because of the allergy i am suffering.

Sir please help me out to get over through this problem. I would be ever grateful to you if you suggest the names of dermatologists from AIIMS so that I can go to them and take the necessary medical guidance provided by them. I would wait eagerly for your response.

Thanking,

Sampriti

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

Lata, it is not possible to understand the problem without observing the leisons. Please refer to dermatology OPD of AIIMS.

Summary of Medical Question:

ulcerative colitis

Posted by:

Alok lamsal

Hello doc,
i am suffering from Ulcerative colitis and i am having my medication but the medicine is not working properly. the name of the medicine is sulfasalazine. And i have bloody stool every day. any suggestion doc.

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

Alok, ulcerative collitis has its natural remissions and excerbations. Take bland diet (without spices, condiments and oil). Include lots of fibres in the diet- boiled vegetables and fresh fruits will be helpful. Isapgol may be useful. Take probiotics like capsule providac. Also consult a gastroentrologist and get endoscopy/ full colonscopy done. There is no definitive therapy for this condiction. In some cases surgery helps.

Summary of Medical Question:

knee injury

Posted by:

Renee Goldberg

what does knee swelling and pain behind the knee mean?

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

Renee, if there is history of injury or over stretching, it could be injury to bone or ligaments. In case of bony injury the movements on the joint will be extremely painful. It can be confirmed by x-ray knee- AP and lateral views. injury on ligaments can be diagnosed through CT scan. If an injury is diagnosed the joint need to be immobilized by a plaster cast for 3 weeks. Pain killers like ibuprofen may be used for temporary relief. Please consult an orthopedic surgeon.

Fatima, in 3 months all effects of c- section are generally over. You should resume all normal routine activities. You can have relations with your husband. You can use stomach belt. You can take fruit juice or milk shake or whatever you like. As advised earlier, start exercises. If you are not breast feeding your baby, may take ibuprofen or paracetamol or bodyache. Resume all activities of normal life and you will be alright.

Std

Jake cogburn

When pee it stings bad. Some times takes my breath away, also it feels like I have to go pee all the time.!what do I have?

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

Jake, it seems to be urinary tract infection. First, give a sample of urine for culture & sensitivity test, and routine test. The sample of urine is to be provided in a special sterile vial/ bottle that is provided by laboratory. Thereafter, you may start a course of broad spectrum antibiotic. Antibiotic may have to be changed as per result of the test. For fever and bodyache, take paracetamol tablets 3-4 times a day. Consult a physician. Maintain personal hygiene. It could be sexually transmitted infection, so avoid sexual contact with multiple partners or use condoms.

sickness

Posted by:

Jake cogburn

I've been sick for three days now.when it started I was very tired and weak.I had cold chills even though my body was on fire. My head was exploding with every sound or bright light. My body ached all over, but especially around my hips and lower back. My ? Is what do I have? And what can I do about it?

Answer by voluntary user(s)

now i have it. my doctor says it's swine flu, and ifeel sick as a 'pig'

moan.
back to bed,
carole
_____________________________________________________

the chances are good you have influenza. nothing to do about it but wait: about 2 weeks, usually. you must drink lots of fluids, eat very lightly if possible, keep your body washed if someone can help you. stay in bed and rest, rising only for bathroom. take tylenol/acetominophen for fever and aches since it won't affect the course of the disease.
watch out for: productive coughing where the sputum is discolored and thick. yellow, green, brown or bloody sputum call for immediate medical attention: call ambulance and go to emergency care. it means pneumonia, dangerous in weakened state.
you must take fluids. if urine wanes or becomes bloody, also go to ER.
it is absolutely miserable as anyone who has suffered with it knows. please care for yourself and stay in bed.
carole

Summary of Medical Question:

persistent cough

Posted by:

Paul Bush

my wife has had a persistent dry cough somewhat deep at times associated with a scratchy throat.she does not have any fever, phlem, watery eyes or runny nose.the cough has been with her since december 08.She has been to a general practitioner twice about this.9/26/08 he prescribed amoxicillan with no effect. In 6/11/09 he perscribed cephalexin and fluticazone spray with no effect.I may need a specilist, but what type?I have no job,Ido not want to waist money going to the wrong specialist.Do you know what the cough might be?thank you

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

Paul, tell your wife to do hot saline gargles thrice daily. Secondly, sometimes acidity also causes cough. If so, she may take antacids. If you are sure there is absolutely no phlem, no fever, no weight loss and no general weakness, she may need consultation with ENT (Otorhinolaryngeology) surgeon for the possibility of pharyngitis/ laryngitis. If there is phlem, she would need to consult chest specialist and tuberculosis has to be ruled out by examination of sputum, x-ray chest and blood count.

Answer by voluntary user(s)

persistant cough of the type you describe is typical also of cigarette smoking, exposure to cigarette smoke, strong perfume, occupational toxins, dust, etc. could be an allergic type problem. there are medicines which will help and also treat the cause. you might also consider seeing a lung specialist. i concur with previous answer, could easily be gastric in nature.

weakness after birth

Posted by:

fatima

hello doctor im 27 yrs i want to know that i feel to much weakness after child birth i am taking iron and calcium supplements but still feels pain in whole body specially after sleep.i got c-section my baby is 3 months old..please tell me what should i take to reduce pain and weakness. pain started in knees also..thank u

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

Fatima, it happens with some women, so, nothing to worry, you will be alright. Start light exercises, go out for walks, move all limbs and spines, raise both legs straight while lying down on your back. Systematic yoga exercises can be very useful. Take any nutritious diet or anything that you like. Fresh fruits, fresh fruit juice, milk, jaggery etc are adviced. Breast feeding the baby helps in early recovery. To rule out any underlying disorder get blood test for blood sugar, total blood count, thyroid function test.
