Summary of Medical Question:

Uncontrollable Diarrhea

Posted by:

John

For the past 7 weeks, I've been experiencing uncontrollable diarrhea. I've had bouts of this before, 5 and 12 years ago, but never lasting this long. I have a history of IBS, but usually am constipated. I now run if possible to the nearist bathroom and often sleep in mine because of proximity to the toilet. I go between 6 and 15 times per day, and even stopped eating for four days with no improvement. After I was cleaned out, I would still pass water through my anus. I have had stool cultures taken without any findings, have a colonoscopy set up for later this month, and been to the ER four times, without help. They put me on Lomotil, which has no affect. I drink Kaopectate all day long, and it barely helps. Imodium has no affect either. I'm having problems at work, and have literally ruined several pairs of pants, besides being very embarrassed. The last episode five years ago, the doctor labeled it as "Brainerd Diarrhea" but I cannot find anything on it, and all the doctor's I've seen, think I'm making it up. When I was diagnosed with it, they had a write up of some sort describing it, and it sounded like what I have. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

John, first take some antibiotics like norfloxacillin tablets 400 mg twice daily plus metranidazole tablets 400 mg thrice daily for one week. Also take probiotics like lactobacilli for one month. Avoid spicy, fried foods, alkohol. If possible take only butter mild for a couple of days. Drink only boiled water. Your acute problem should be relieved.

Summary of Medical Question:

Ear

Posted by:

Ryan

About three weeks ago I woke up with horrible pain in my left ear, and it radiated down my left jaw. I left it alone before seeing a doctor for about 2 weeks. I saw a Physicians Assistant at a walk in clinic and she said there was signifcant wax build up so she flushed the canal and a lot wax came out and she said she saw that the canal was inflammed and prescribed me ciprodex drop to use twice a day. I am now finished with the bottle and the pain comes and goes. But I am still having pain. I spoke to the PA a few days ago and she said to take some claritin to get rid of the fluid that she also saw in my ear. I dont know if I should see some else and what to do about my ear. The pains are really sharp

Summary of Medical Question:

severe shoulder pain

Posted by:

wynema

PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME!!!!! my shoulder hurts so bad, even when i move my wrist or elbow it sends shots up my arm into my shoulder that actually make me cry and make noises from grunts to downright screams! I have been to 2 different ER's, one says the xrays show i may have a bone chip so they send me to arrowhead who does their own xrays and say they see nothing, both sent me home with a pain shot that did NOTHING for the pain but did help me get a little sleep after over 2 weeks of almost no sleep at all because every time i move it wakes me up... i am already a fibro patient, i am used to living with pain, but this is far more than pain it is downright AGONY!!! i cannot move my arm at all without crying out loud, i cannot lift it, cannot move it backwards, forewards, up, down i CANNOT MOVE IT!!! I cannot even make it move using my other arm because the pain is so excruciating I have to stop!!! even when doing my best not to move it at all it still hurts so badly i end up crying a LOT! it is freaking my man, my kids and myself out!!! PLEASE, PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

Wynema, please get a digital x-ray shoulder AP and lateral views done and show it to an orthopedic surgeon. If there is no injury, pain killers with physiotherapy may help. If an injury is found, treatment will be accordingly.

Summary of Medical Question:

One time thin string of blood in phlegm

Posted by:

T

Just getting over flu (probably H1N1) and coughed hard this morning -- this thing came with a nice cough. Noticed a small stringy bit of bright red in the phlegm. Literally looked like a short small red string in the phlegm. I have never coughed up blood in phlegm before and was taken aback. What is this? As long as I don't have a recurrence, do I just shrug this off? Or, should I 100% make an appt? I had been feeling better yesterday and today and thought I was pretty much over the H1N1 other than a bit of a residual cough so I was thrown for a bit of a loop by it. If I hadn't spit in the sink, I wouldn't have even known. I had not been coughing up much phlegm at all while I was sick. I don't smoke and no known prior lung issues.

Summary of Medical Question:

Excess iron in liver

Posted by:

Jody Albright

I am male, 35 years old, athletic, dont smoke nor drink, have a few tattoos. Two years ago I begun to feel tired here and there, then one night got headache and next day came down with what I thought to be the flu, flu like symptoms, weak, fatigue, throwing up, high fever that was hard to break 103-104 degrees, so I thought I would slowly get better, well after a week of this my wife finaly talked me in to go to the e.r. when I got there they said yeah just a virus to go home and rest, they did no blood work on me that night, the very next morning I was Jaundice, so they took me back to hospital where I stayed bout a week, extremely weak that week, they said they werent for sure what happened to me to follow up with a liver specialist, well I have been tested for hep a b c d and all the others have so far always been negative, been to cancer doctor they said my blood was clean, have had hydroscan one so far several ct scans of liver and admonen have had tube down my throat to see stomach area they found nothing, and finally had a liver biospy, the finding was excess iron in my liver, highly suggestive of hemachromatosis, I seen a person that treats this disease as well as digagnoses it and both said they believed that i did not have this due to the fact after so long that my iron count in my blood is still normal but yet not in my liver. So still no answers not even a diagnoses on paper for me, I did read recently that just because your iron level in your blood is normal does still not mean that I might not have hemachromatosis, so they dont want to treat me because of my iron count in blood is normal, so I am looking for any and all answers to this. Can you help me on the right path to get help for something I dont even know what it is? Thanks for your time on this. Jody
