Summary of Medical Question:

Collapse of lungs during anithstetic

Posted by:

Donna

Please could someone try and explain in laments terms for me the question i have? My boyfriend had an accident at work and he cut his arm, this was quite a deep laceration and was advised that he would need surgery to repair tend ants, fine. He was put to sleep for the operation and when he came round he had blood coming from his mouth and nose and both his lungs collapsed. He was given 100% oxygen and we were told he was not responding! From a cut on the arm to basically very nearly losing his life is very hard to try and get my head around! Any suggestions welcome, especially from a medical point of view

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

Donna, for performing surgery on a person, he is made unconscious by administering anesthetic drugs (injections and gases). One in 0.1 million cases develop reactions to these drugs and respiratory arrest can occur. There is no way to ascertain how one's body will react to a particular drug. It is very unfortunate but sometimes the medical professionals have no control over it. However, the exact situation can only be assessed by studying the case sheet of the person.

Summary of Medical Question:

Multiple Conditions-Are they linked?

Posted by:

Samantha

I am a 32 yr old female with recently diagnosed with Benign Joint Hypermobility. I have extremely laxed joints (7 on Beighton scale), scoliosis, TMJ, flatfooted, prone to dislocations (especially shoulders), frequent joint discomfort, I was also diagnosed with IBS and had a colonoscopy w/1 tubular adenoma, I bruise quite easily and the bruises have started leaving permanent marks, I also have patches of loose skin. I can't help but wonder if all of this is related and if all these separate diagnoses are correct.

Summary of Medical Question:

candidiasis

Posted by:

E

hi
i posted a question not long ago and i got a reply that said i may have candidiasis ... im sure i dont as i no my boyfriend doesnt have any sti std etc . it was 3 days ago when i found out the problem and now everything has cleared up , i have no symptoms etc, everything seems to be back to normal , could there still be an infection there ? even if everythings cleared up ...?

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

STIs are notorious in the sense they have natural remissions and exerbations. There is a possibility that although the symptoms are over, still the organisms might be surviving in the body and after some time may menifest again. It is not always possible to determine whether the partner has STI or not because there are periods of no menifestation. Whatever be the case, be watchful, if any sign or symptoms appears again, get it examined by an obstetrician and take complete course of medicine. In future take precaustions.

Summary of Medical Question:

correct type of tetanus vaccine

Posted by:

Sandy Bitler

My son stepped on a nail this afternoon. He is 7 yrs old and his immunization record indicates he has received the required 5 vaccinations for (DTaP/DTP/DT) DIPHTHERIA, TETANUS and PERTUSSIS. The most recent date of this immunization was Sept. 12, 2006. However, his immunization record also lists the vaccine (Td) TETANUS, DIPHTHERIA which has never been given. Is DTaP/DTP/DT the necessary vaccine to protect my son from the potential of serious illness due to this injury?

Is penile enlargement surgery possible in AIIMS? What are the side effects of penile enlargement surgery?

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

Jay, it is not possible to increase the size of penis. Infact, there is no need to do so. There is no disadvantage of small penis- one can have equal pleasure and one can procreate.

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

Emily, it seems to be sexually transmitted infection- perhaps candidiasis. You may apply clotrimazole cream and use clotrimazole vaginal tablets/ pessaries for upto 2 weeks. Consult a gynecologist for proper diagnosis and treatment. In future do not have unprotected sex. Condom protects from STIs.
