Summary of Medical Question:

Unknown Problem to doctors

Posted by:

Saaya

Hello Doctor,

I'm Saaya, 23yrs old a software engineer in India (Bangalore). I have been working from past 3months only.

I'm suffering from left leg pain from past 9 to 10 months. Source of pain is my low back towards left of the spinal chord. Pain starts from there, continues with left thigh and knee. I dont get pain in my calf muscles. But my ankels and toes has same pain. My pain is unbearable, and 24hrs i have pain. It does not go even for a minute. I'm addicted to paracetamol (esp crocin). When is severe and im unable to walk, I take half Crocin. This gives me relief from my leg pain for 2 to 3 hrs. I cannot sleep straight, this increases my pain. When pain is severe, my mind goes blank, i cannot walk properly, i cannot even limp but i drag my leg. Pain increases at certain regular times. That is, I get severe pain at around 1.30pm (noon acc to Indian time), then sharp at 7.00pm(eve), again around 1.30am(early morg), then around 4.30am. During these times I taken half crocin.

I have consulted all kinds of doctors and have undergone all kinds of tests ( spinal X-ray, Knee X-ray, Blood tests, tuberculosis test, montest test, some nerve related test, MRI etc) and found all the test reports normal. I have also undergone physiotherapy treatment. I have taken treatments as suggested by respective doctors. But no reduction in my pain. Doctors finally said that they dont understand the cause for my pain. I have consulted many famous wel known doctors. Few doctors said that my problem is related to psychology. They say that I get pain due to tensions etc. But none gives me the solution. I'm really fed up of my life. Unbearable pain which doesn't allow me to work, or do my daily routines. I limp while pain is normal and drag my left leg when pain is severe.

I hope u will guide me in solving my problem. Doctor I'm looking forward to reply. Kindly reply and please help me

Thanks,
Saaya

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

It is an atypical problem. We can only assume that your spinal nerves are pressed somewhere that causes pain. The only remedy for such a problem is exercises- spinal extenstion exercises are required to be done regularly. Avoid forward bending for long duration. Keep your weight under control. Consult a physiotherapist for learning exercises. Also you can try naturopathy at institute of Naturopathy & Yogic Sciences at Jindal Nagar, Bangalore. I am sure if you take exercises regularly for few months, there will be relief.

Summary of Medical Question:

Fever for a week, Swollen lymphnodes

Posted by:

Vince

I've had a fever of at least 101 for the last 7 days (last thursday) in the morning and night. The lymph nodes under my jaw/ear are swollen and the left side of my neck is tender. The left side of my throat is a tad sore. I've been to an urgent care doctor and my doctor. Last sunday I was given an antibiotic, cephalexin (kephlex). All I have done is pretty much rested and drank water and juices. Today is day 4 and I have not missed a dose. My doc said its just pharyngitis, I assume the bacterial kind of course. He said give the medicine 5 days before you see real improvement... I'm worried I won't see any tomorrow, then what?

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

It could be mumps. Besides antibiotic, also take some pain killer like ibuprofen plus paracetamol - one tablet twice daily. Mumps is viral and it takes its own time- 5- 7 days and goes off. If there is any pain in testis steroid will have to be started immediately. If there is no relief in 2 days, consult a physician/ ENT specialist.

I had a skin cancer cut out of my cheek this afternoon and accidentally got the bandage soaked when I showered tonight. Doc said to remove bandage on Friday and put polysporin on it. Should I change the bandage now, or leave it on as it is (soaked), and go have doc re-bandage it tomorrow? Thank you.

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

Soaked bandage should be removed immediately. It can cause infection.

tapan haldar

The patient is 46 years old female who have acute knee problem since 2001. After doing x-ray, it was diagnosed as osteoarthritis of both knees and subsequent x-ray revealed as the case of osteoporosis. She has been facing pain often. She is flabby.

For osteoarthritis knees, she need to reduce her weight and take quadricep exercises. Consult a physiotherapist to learn these exercises. Summary of Medical Question:

period-like cramping after period

Posted by:

R.S.S.

Ever since the first day of my period, I've been having painful cramping like I get during my period except it doesn't stop.
I've always had a heavy flow that lasts 5 days and this wasn't any different.
My husband and I use natural family planning, completely abstaining for about a week and a half before and during my fertile periods. We have 2 kids. I was thinking about the possibility of the pain being stress related.
In addition to the constant pain, I have nausea, constipation, and lower back pain.
Any thoughts about temporary treatment would be very much appreciated.

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

Some women do have premenstrual symptoms of pain, cramps, nausea that generally clears up once bleeding starts. Bleeding up to 5 days is normal. But if it is very heavy, it needs to be investigated. Oral contraceptive pills often help in regulating menstruation. You can try one. If there is no relief, investigations- ultrasound lower abdomen to rule out fibroid and endometriosis would be advisable. In that case you may consult a gynecologist.

Summary of Medical Question:

Severe upper abdominal back pain

Posted by:

Jennifer Hall

I am 28 years old and two months ago I had my gall bladder removed because I had a large amount of gall stones. The week after, I had an attack in my upper abdomen, right in the middle below my breasts that was like a stabbing pain and pressure. It went away after about 20 min. Ever since I get an attack one or two times a day and they are getting worse. Now when it happens it is paralyzing, I instantly start to sweat badly and feel week and as if I might pass out. The pain has also spread to my back and I feel no burning, just a stabbing intense pressure very localized in the same area where my gall bladder gave me pain. On two occasions I have thrown up and immediately felt relief, but with no blood or anything in it. If I move at all or touch the area it hurts more. My back is searing and I am scarred every time I am going to pass out. I have not noticed any blood in my stool or vomit, but I don't know why after having my gall bladder removed I am still feeling this same kind of intense pain. And everytime this occurs it comes on fast, but just as quick after about 20 minutes it disappears. Sometimes because I vomit, or sometimes on it's own. Please let me know what this could be. I drove myself to the emergency room once, but by the time I got there it had stopped so I came home. I have no insurance, but I am pretty sure this is something serious. Should I wait for when the attack occurs to go to the emergency room? Please help, this pain is unbearable

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

Please get ultrasound abdomen done immediately and consult a surgeon.

Carbamazipine is indicated in bipolar disorder. Besides epilepsy, this drug is also used in bipolar disorder. If there is not desired relief, please consider taking a second opinion. Also psychotherapy should be sought.

Summary of Medical Question:

respiratory infection?

Posted by:

Josh

I have something that i would not call chest pain, but i can tell something is not right. It comes and goes from day to day. Occasionally i will cough up a very small amount of yellow mucus. Before this condition, i had been sick off and on with what i would guess to be a sinus infection. (i had a sore throat off and on, about twice a day for a few hours at a time.) Since i started feeling something in my chest i have been hooked up to an ekg, which came back normal, and i also had a chest xray, which also came back normal. I also was on 10 days of amoxicillin, and 5 days of some other type of antibiotic. Like i said, i wouldnt classify this as chest pain, i can just tell that something is there. This has been going on now for well over a month. I dont cough regularly, my sinuses arent runny or painful, i am not sneezing. Is this a chronic sinus infection? thank you for your help

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

It seems to be infection in your lungs. Because of antibiotics it remained under control but did not clear up completely. You may take another antibiotic- say tablet ciprofloxacillin 500 mg twice daily for 7 days (this is adult dose). Also take steam inhalation 2-3 times a day. If still the chest is not cleared, please consult a physician.
