Summary of Medical Question:

EFFECT OF JOINT SURGERY REFUSAL

Posted by:

prashant

Hello sir,
My problem is, I had a fracture at wrist joints in last year. First a doctor treated me (only plastered).
After few months, I met a well known doctor, he said that the joints should had to realigned by surgery, by placing pins or wires. otherwise it would lead to arthritis.
When I asked my first doctor he said, surgery was not necessary, Even after surgery, it hasn't much effect.
My question is -
1) Isn't any problem in future by this treatment of only plastering
without surgery.
2) Can I do normal work as before. My work is related with metals. So it is a hardwork.
3)If I had another injury on the same place what could be the effect.

Thank you for reading my mail.

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

Prashant, after a frature, if the bony ends are in alienment, a plaster cast can generally help in union of bones. If the ends are not aliened, the wire or plate is to be fixed. In your case if bony union has taken place, physiotherapy will help in resoring full range of movements. Show your x -ray to a third orthopaedic surgeon and get another opinion.

Summary of Medical Question:

sudden short term memory loss

Posted by:

Brenda S

I am a very healthy 50 year old female. In the last 1-2 months have noticed that suddenly my short term memory is getting bad very quickly. I can be in a conversation with a client and completely forget what I am talking about, or I can't think of the word I want to say...sometimes I can think of what it starts with and is usually a very common word. Last, I will be listening to a client and think of something I want to say when they are through, but within 10 seconds will totally forget what it was. Sometimes I can't remember a persons name when I see them all the time. Any suggestions? I am getting concerned.

Summary of Medical Question:

granulomatous scarring

Posted by:

john fadel

my son Jayden is 10 years of age. he is fit and health. He complains of back problems in the upper shoulder area as he plays rugby league which is a physical contact sport. as he is small in structure, he started complaining about this problem since his last game which is about 3 months ago. we took him to the doctor a month ago and got an xray which stats all is good and normal except to say that there is a small scaring in the right mid zonal granulomatous scarring. He now still complains. so we took him to the doctors again last week and went to get further xrays. results came back as the following. in there words. There has been some further consolidation of the right mid zonal granulomatous scarring since the 9/9/2009. and the upper pole of the right hilum is unchanged. the left lung field was clear with normal basal pleural reflections. the heart was normal in size and contour.
the doctor has now sent him to a specialist which we can see till the 9th of November.
Can you please help and give me some sought of explanation what this could be. As very worried parents. Is this suggesting a tumor or cancerous.

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

John, definitely there is a problem in the lungs and we need to exclude tuberculosis, sarcoidosis and cancer etc. Bronchoscopy to visualize the tissues inside the lung or CT guided biopsy to take a sample of diseased tissue from the lung and examining it in the laboratory would be required to confirm the diagnosis. Please refer to a respiratory medicine specialist/ pulmonologist.

Summary of Medical Question:

copd

Posted by:

mike

ive got copd.took spirometry test.they said ive lost 40 percent of my breathing.how serious is that?

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

Mike, COPD is usually a progressive disorder and may become serious. Please stop smoking, if you are and start breathing exercises.

Answer by voluntary user(s)

mike, there are many things that factor into the cause of copd and many solutions, too.

consult a pulmonary doctor again and they should be able to prescribe inhalers, etc to make your breathing easier. there are pulmonary rehab programs to train your breathing and learn how to pace your everyday activities so that you might enjoy life. having 60% of your lung function left may sound dreadful, but you should be able to function quite well unless you do not care for yourself.
