Summary of Medical Question:

swollen tonsils and sore throat

Posted by:

Anonymous

I performed fellatio for my boyfriend for the first time about 2 days ago. (It was not protected, because it was a 'heat of the moment' type of thing. Please, don't judge me.) Anyway, when I woke up yesterday, my throat was sore and it hurt to swallow. My tonsils were a bit swollen and there was some white spots on them. Other than that, I did not notice any symptoms. Today, the swelling has gone down quite considerably, but the spots are still there. The pain is only when I swallow now, and it's only a fraction of the soreness I felt yesterday. I do not have a thermometer, so I don't know if I have a fever. And I would go see my doctor or go to urgent care, but I loaned my car to someone.

Does this sound like strep throat or something more serious?

Thank you so much for your time.

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

It seems to be streptococcal throat infection for which you may take capsule amoxycillin 500 mg/ 6 hourly for 5 days. But if there is white spot or coating in the throat, it could be thrush. Observe the spot and if it is still there, please consult a doctor/ ENT specialist.

Summary of Medical Question:

Head injury

Posted by:

MM

Yesterday at 4:00 pm an eleven pound slide projector fell from a shelf about two and a half feet above my head and struck the top of my skull. This was followed by four other five pound object striking me in the same place in succession. I temporarily felt like I blacked out for seconds and then had blurred vision for seconds. I was able have a coherent conversation but felt fuzzy. I applied ice. There is no bump or laceration but it feels as if there is a slight indentation in my scalp at the sight which is mid skill to forward and there is tenderness at the sight. This morning I have no headache and some nausea but not to the extent of vomiting. I feel slight pressure but no pain. My right ear feels slight clogged. I can hear my heartbeat in my right ear but had this symptom a few days before the injury. I do not want to over react or under react. I am concerned I may have internal bleeding or a blood clot but do not know the symptoms to watch out for. Should I seek medical attention?

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

As you rightly pointed out, there is a need to observe for internal bleeding in the brain. Vomiting, deterioration in vision, altered sensorium, unconsciousness etc are the common symptoms of brain injury. First 48 hours very close observation need to be done and there should be possibility to get immediate emergency medical treatment if need be. MRI- brain can exclude brain injury. It would be advisable to seek medical attention in this case.

It lasted about 5 minutes or less and then for the next 12 hours or so my side just felt a little sore. I started drinking a ton of water and now there is no side pain, but I weighed myself and went from my normal 182 to around 190 overnight. I am urinating so I don't understand the gain. I'm concerned about my left kidney or maybe my bladder. Let me know your thoughts.

Summary of Medical Question:

Seemingly healthy

Posted by:

Brittany

Hello, My name is Brittany. I am a military wife and my husband is away on deployment. I've been having several health problems in the past few months that started even before my husband left and now with him gone I'm constantly alone and am concerned with what might happen if I have an emergency and am unable to call for help. My biggest problem right now is that I am having trouble breathing on a regular basis usually accompanied by chest pain. Most of the time without even doing anything I find myself unable to catch my breath for up to hours at a time and it usually leads to my getting extremely lightheaded and either collapsing or passing out. At first my doctors assumed it was asthma and gave me an inhaler. I didn't think that made much sense but it did happen occassionally after exercise so I tried it. It helped occassionally when the breathing problems were brought on by pushing myself while exercising though not always, so I assume that I may have asthma as well. But when the breathing trouble starts for no reason the inhaler does nothing. I did go to the hospital once but it was after about 6 hours of not being able to breathe and by the time I was seen by an ER doctor I was having a full on anxiety attack. Which I assume was due to the stress I was under. I mean I had after all had to drive myself to the emergency room, which looking back now may not have been such a good idea but I do live about 2 blocks from the hospital. I also had a severe migraine and was in alot of pain. The doctor of course assumed that the anxiety attack was my whole problem and gave me medication for it. At the time it seemed to help so they gave me a prescription and sent me home with no further testing. The next time I was at home had trouble breathing the anxiety medication did not help at all. I told my doctor about it but she wrote it off as side affects from the new medications I'm on, but I'd only been on them for a couple weeks and this problem had been going on for months. My doctors won't listen to me and I don't know what else to do.
My other issues are just alot of random symptoms
Ringing in my ears
Muscle spasms
Abnormal heart rythms
Bowel movement dysfuntion
Blurred vision
Frequent abdominal pain

All of which started before I started my new medications.

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

For your breathing problem, we need to rule out weakness of your heart (cardiac failure). For which you need to undergo investigations- ECG; echocardiography with color doppler. Please consult a cardiologist. For migrain you may try capsule sumatriptan- take it as soon as you get the feeling that you are going to have the headache.

Summary of Medical Question:

hypoglycemia turning into diabetes?

Posted by:

worried one

could my hypoglycemia be turning into type 2 diabetes?

more and more lately I have been really tired, thirsty to the point I'm drowning in myself, legs are kind of funny feeling like before you get pins and needles and they hurt, my head hurts if I have too much sugar and I feel a lot sicker from it than normal, if I don't take in sugar I feel way off like spaced out dizzy sick, and 2 days ago I broke out with heat rash(?) or some itchy rash all over my belly and neck and I have not been near anything that would cause a rash.

everyone keeps telling me it's turning to type 2 and to see a Dr but I don't want to rush out and make an appointment.

Any clues as to what may be going on?
what should I look for?
everything on the net is so over done with "symptoms" anyone with the flu could think it's diabetes !

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

Please get your blood sugar tested- fasting and 2 hours after a meal. If it is not within normal limits, please consult a physician.

Summary of Medical Question:

Implantation Bleeding or MAP side effect ?

Posted by:

Mudit

Hello ,

Last month on the 11th of June , me and my girlfriend tried to have sex ( She had her period on the 8th which ceased on the 14th) , We didn;t succeed as maybe we were both very tensed and concerned , anyway we took every possible precaution , using protection the right way and neither did it slip out or tear and also taking the MAP the very next morning .. On the 14th we indulged in foreplay which included some fingering , but again we took precautions of ensuring our hands were clean at all times .. she started spotting on the 18th which stopped on the 1st of July ..on the 7th of July , she showed some light streaks of blood in the morning which havent reoccured or have turned into a period , Although we have taken every precaution , is there any chance of pregnancy ? Or are these just side effects of the MAP ? or is the bleeding that occured yesterday a sign of implantation bleeding ?

Thankyou

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

Menstruation plus one week before and after menstruation are safe period- when conception is not likely to happen despite sex. Emergency pills can cause irregularity of menstruation.
