Summary of Medical Question:

Second attack of herpes!

Posted by:

Sam

I had sores on my lips a few months ago, I went to the doctor and upon a physical examination I was told that I was infected with herpes, I was shocked as I have been sexually inactive for over three years, at the same time I also had a hemorrhoid and a small rash on my penis, I was told that the hemorrhoid and the rash had nothing to do with herpes, soon afterwards I had rashes on my anis, but they went away pretty soon along with the sores on my lips and I was back to my normal routine. Now after about two month, I had a sudden inching on my lips, after which my lips started to swell, I thought I had gone allergic to something, I took Benadryl for a day and a half, as soon as the swelling went away I noticed two rashes on the outside of my lower lip and kind of white sores on the inner side of my upper lip, soon after that I had rashes on my anis and a rash appeared on my penis at the same spot as last time! I am pretty depressed with this whole herpes situation. I am concerned about how I got herpes in the first place when I am not involved in a physical activity for several years and secondly about the fact that I have to live with this problem my whole life! I am a student trying to go back to school and at this time I can neither afford going to a doctor or the medicine, as the last time my prescription was over two hundred dollars and I ended up not buying the medicine! I was hoping you guys be able to help me out with this! I was wondering that maybe I just had herpes simplex and maybe the rash on my penis was just a rash and maybe I infected them by handling them all at the same time. Please advice on what to do?

Summary of Medical Question:

phimosis with balanitis

Posted by:

anonymous

For a good few months now i have had a sore patch on my penis. i have been very embarrassed and worried about it. i went to the GUM clinic and they told me to take aqueous cream BP and come back a week later. they told me they would perform a biopsy and sample the area. This made me far too uncomfortable and nervous for my liking so i haven't returned since. i'm certain it is balanitis and phimosis because the foreskin seems tight, and i have all the symptons of balanitis. Could you please tell me what i can do without the needto go to another checkup? Vs there any kind of medicine or cream that'll clear it up? The BP cream i'm using is cleansing it, but not removing it. And also how do you cure phimosis short of a circumision? Any help appreciated.

sweeling in the face

Posted by:

harsh

i have recently witnessed a slight swelling in face in my chin ..request of ur advice to which specialist shud i meet so tht same can subside.

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

If the swelling is only on the chin, it could be some local problem like insect bite. In that case you observe it carefully for few days. If the swelling is all over the face, you may consult a physician. Blood count, thyroid function test and urine examination would be required in first step.

Summary of Medical Question:

bandaid adhesive allergy

Posted by:

Michael

While cooking I obtained a one inch by one third inch second degree burn on my stomach. I cooled and wet the area for an hour or two, then used a large Band Aid brand band aid. In the morning when I removed the band aid to change it there was a red-ish welt in the shape of the adhesive area of the bandaid around the burn. I switched brands to a Walgreen latex free adhesive pad, but the same thing occurred. I then bought sterile gauze pads and cloth tape, but the same red puffy reaction occurred in the shape of the area taped. My next step is to try to find long enough ace bandages (I'm a big person, 52w waist) to wrap around with gauze covering the burn. Incidentally the burn did not blister, but a small portion of the burned skin did come off on the second bandage so it's open at the bottom. What started out as just a serious burn that I could have taken care of has progressed to a point where I may need to spend money on a doctor. What is your recommendation at this point? Thanks for your assistance. Michael

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

You may wash the burn site with diluted savlon solution; clean it with plain water and let it dry (if possible in sun light). Once it is dry, apply betadine onitment and let it remain open. Wear clean cotton undergarments and change them at least twice a day. Make sure that the cloth does not stick to the wound. It should be alright in a week.

Summary of Medical Question:

Mono rash caused by penicllin

Posted by:

Anonymous

Hello, I had a sore throat a little while ago so i went to the doctors thinking it was strep throat, he did the test and sent it away and give me a prescription for penicillin. So i got it fill and started using it three a day. I had used it for about five days when i noticed that the side of my neck had swelled up really bad. The next morning i took one more of the pills because i thought that may have been apart of the strep throat, (which came back positive). I was at work and i noticed i was starting to break out into a rash on my stomach so i went back to the doctors, where i found out that i tested positive for Mono. He took me off the penicillin and gave me a different prescription for my strep throat that didn't contain penicillin. He advised Claritin or Benadryl. I got the Caritin. That was on Tuesday. The rash spread the next day to my neck and face, started down my legs and down my arms. I have been taking cold baths and showers and drinking lots of water. Now today, Thursday, the rash is all the way down my arms and on my hands, down past my knees and almost completely covering my body. It is itchy but I'm not itching it. How long will this last? What can i do to get better faster? School starts in five days and I don't want to have this. I'm embarrassed to leave the house. Can you please help me! Thanks

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

To treat allergic rashes you can take anti allergy tablet allegra 30 mg once a day. You can apply caladryl lotion to reduce itching.

Summary of Medical Question:

abnormal period

Posted by:

Keri

I had a one normal day of a monthy cycle, one scanty/spotty day, two without and one scanty/spotty day and then nothing. I am trying to get blood work done to see if it is a thyroid issue that I am already taking medicine for. I want to know if there are any other conditions that might cause this and anything else I should do. I have had some other wierd things just prior to this month cycle as well, unexplained weight gain(when trying to lose some) swelling of legs, yeast infection, tiredness but with insomnia.

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

Menstrual irregularity, weight gain, insomia, tiredness etc can be due to thyroid. Please get T3, T4, TSH done and consult a physician/ endocrinologist.

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

For healing a wound on your leg, please do hot saline fomentation of the wound for 5- 10 minutes twice daily. Then let it dry in sun light. Once it is dry, apply betadine ointment on it. If you can leave it open that will be good but if you go out, then it would be better to cover it with a clean cotton pad and bandage.

Summary of Medical Question:

cut off pinky toe

Posted by:

Galvin

I was changing the blade on my lawnmower, I dropped the blade onto my foot, I was wearing sandals and it severed my pinky toe. I cauderised the wound and it stopped bleeding. I put the toe in my freezer. what steps should I take next?

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

Wash the toe and wrap it in a plastic sheet and put the warpped toe in the ice box( the toe should not be directly exposed to ice). If there is no bleeding, rush to the surgeon/ emergency room along with the seperated toe in ice box. If bleeding start from the injured feet, compress the wound with thumb and fingers till you reach hospital.

Answer by voluntary user(s)

Mr Galvin
Use the RICE method: Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation. Rest your foot as much as possible, of course. Put an ice bag on the toe several times a day Also keep your foot elevated as much as possible.Don't wrap the foot and toe too tightly. Take Ibuprofen to help dull the pain and to help reduce the swelling.tape the pinky toe to the toe next to it.Keep it iced and elevated as much as possible.Immediately
seek attention from surgeon.

Get yourself examined by the surgeon. You may need a USG and urine analysis test.Prevent testicle injury by wearing an athletic supporter during physical activity,
.Perform testicular self-exams monthly .Make sure that you have received the MMR vaccine (a combination vaccine for mumps, measles, and rubella). Emptying the bladder completely when urinating helps prevent urinary tract infections.
