minstrel symptoms but no actual period

Posted by:

misty

I'm 16 and I have reqular periods. I can time them perfectly every month. I have always had bad cramps bleed very hevy and cravings for the same things eveytime I have my period. Well I can't figure out why but for some reason when I was spost to have my period I had all the cramps at times they were worse than I usualy get. I had the craving and even the mood swings but I didn't bleed at all. I am sexualy active but I do use protection and I'm almost positive I'm not pregnant. Should I be concerned about this and what might be the cause of this?

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

Occasional menstrual irregularity is not uncommon. However, since you missed a period, it would be advisable to get pregnancy test done. Home test kits to test urine for pregnancy are available with chemists.

Summary of Medical Question:

broken left collar bone

Posted by:

Brian

Hi, I broke my left collar bone, and was told that it was just cracked and would heal normally. It's been about 3 years now, and I've started to pitch with my left arm. When I throw, the collar bone clicks about half the time. Sometimes it's really bad though, and feels like it gets caught. This really messes up my throwing, becauseI have to stop mid throw on occasion. Will this heal over time? What do you reccomend I do? Thanks, Brian

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

Collar bone generally units on its own and does not require any treatment. But since 3 years have passed, it would be advisable to get a fresh x-ray collar bone and shoulder- AP and lateral views done and consult an orthopedic surgeon to rule out any other problem.

nero

Ill try to do this as short as possible. HIV and hep c positive. Cd4 450, undetactable viral load. Lowest cd4 170. Went untreated for 10 years, now am on norvir, telzir, ziagen. Happy, healthy and doing well until 3 years ago when treated with prednisone for infection. Got paranoid and manic on 3rd or 4th day. Wento to hospital and was diagnosed with depression with psychotic features. Diagnosis didn't sit well with me as I didn't feel that was the case at all. Was put on celexa and risperidone. Zombie pretty much for next 2 years. Started having obsessions and depression. Hospitalized again and was taken off pyschiatric meds cold turkey. Became suicidal and stopped HIV meds. 4 months later became unable to function with extreme amnesia, obsessions, dream like state, not able to remember conversations and when do they are like a dream. Extrememly suicidal, not able to read or understand the words, mixing up words, dazed and out of it as my family would describe it. Severe behaviour changes and cognitive decline. MMSE is normal however further cognitive testing was significantly impaired. Medicines ie;oxycontin, benadryl trigger this state to become much worse. Took an oxycontin and ended up in hospital for a week with amnesia, things were familiar but couldn't remember anything, could barely speak with racing heart, couldn't write or read very well. Crazy thoughts. Sleep is crazy like a TV screen going crazy and wake up confused and disoriented. Had to quit my job. I do stupid things like wander on the highway with no shoes. Seen psychiatrists and they are all saying there is something medical going on and they can't help me. HIV specialist is saying I cant have dementia or HIV infection at my CD4 counts. They say there is a remote possibility of seizure activity. I cant live like this anymore and if you have any ideas of what could be happening that would be great as suicide I feel is my only option. Sorry for the short hand writing. I was trying to get it all in in a small space. THanks so much. Oh, I have had an MRI and EEG and both were normal. Lots of blood work to test for hormones and stuff. Triglicerides extremely high 7.7
Liver is okay. SLight fever the last few days but has gone away now.lymphnodes have been slightly inflamed for the last few months, since things got really bad. Most important in all of this is that I don't get fevers or have typical symptoms and was very sick 4 years ago with mono and a massive tooth infection that I had random symptoms with. It wasn't until I went septic and had lock jaw and all my muscles were sore that they found the infection. For 10 months my stomach was ballooned out because my doctor said I was swallowing bacteria. I had blood in my mouth but no swelling and no fever. I have been tested for mitochondrial disorders and all is well there. All of my symptoms seems to be emotional however have had considerable weakness in the last several weeks ie; holding hands over head to wash hair or packing groceries is difficult. Please help because I have set a date for some things and need help soon.

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

Continue with anti-retroviral therapy religiously. Do not take any other medicine without doctor's advice. Consult a counselor and a psychotherapist.

Summary of Medical Question:

Numbness right arm

Posted by:

Roger

Hello,

A couple of months ago, I was in a car accident. Another party struck the side of my car. Side curtain air bags and a seat belt saved me from serious injury. About 10 days after the accident I started to get a periodic numbness sensation on my right shoulder down to my elbow. It's been around for the past 6 weeks. No pain and very little discomfort just the numbness that goes away in a few seconds.

I've seen a chiropractor but did not have much luck. Got MRI's of the neck and shoulder. Just went and saw my family MD who put me on a steroid pack for 6 days. No effect so far.

My question: my doc suggests the next step be an EMG and nerve testing. This procedure does not look like fun and I am wondering is it worth it? Even if they confirm there's an pinched or impingement of a nerve, will the treatment change (if there is a treatment)?

Cost is not a factor for the tests. There is really no pain and I have not noticed any loss of strength to the bicep or triceps area. I'm still playing golf and tennis without any issues (except for occasional numbness sensations).

Two interesting items (1) stress will bring the numbness sensation, which make sense and (2) if I lift my right arm up above my head the sensation goes away immediately.

MRI results for cervical (C5)

C4-5: bilateral neural foraminal narrowing from osteophyte formation, right greater than left, is seen with no disc herniation or spinal stenosis or cord compression

C5-6: a broad-based disc osteophyte complex with right lateral recess and neural foraminal narrowing is seen without cord compression or flattening

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

You are right, there could be pressure on the nerve and unless there is a serious disability, no intervention would be advisable. The changes in MRI seem to be normal aging process and not due to accident. You can take cervical exercises regularly. Avoid continuous forward bending postures. For 6 weeks or so avoid any jerk including playing golf. A physiotherapist can teach you exercises and posture control techniques. You should be alright in few months.

is epilepsy curable?

Posted by:

aseem

i had my brain surgery on 20-01-2009. i have epilepsy but my seizures and strokes are still not controlled. i am taking high dosage medicines. my neuro physician is trying to adjust the dose but she is not getting success. i am becoming weak day by day.plz help me in ur possible way. i want to know whether there is any chance of curing epilepsy? plz provide me as much as information as u can. i am unable to know what to do? i want a valuable suggestion from u . thank u.

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

In most of cases epilepsy is not curable but most of them can be controlled with medicines. The combination of medicines and their dose would need adjustment in the initial few months. Once settled it can be continued life long. You may take a second opinion from another neurologist.
