Summary of Medical Question:

diabetes

Posted by:

Robert Hipps

Hi-

I had a massive sugar low this morning (meter simply read "low" - under 20) after taking my regular lantus injection of 22 units. My blood sugar was at 230 and the low came a half hour later. The ambulance that came and cared for me was shocked I was even conscious.. How could this have happened? There was blood that followed the injection and I have gotten pretty lean of late. If you inject the muscle directly does that make a difference?

Rob

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

It is possible that the insulin got injected directly into blood vessle that suddenly dropped the blood sugar level. Secondly there is a possibility to re- adjust the dose of insulin- may be reduce it. Please consult a physician/ endocrinologist.

Summary of Medical Question:

Abdominal Pains

Posted by:

cindy williams

sometimes i feel as if my lower abdomen is cramping or sharp pains on my left side or right side. i just finished my menstruation, and the pains have started a little. i discharged white stuff and it has a slight odour, what is it?

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

It seems to be infection in your reproductive organs- vagina and/ or uterus. You may put clotrimazole vaginal pills deep in your vagina and take ciprofloxacillin 500 mg twice daily orally for 5 days. If the complaints of white fouls smelling discharge and pain abdomen are not relieved, consult a gynecologist. In future take precautions against unprotected sex. Condoms protect from sexually transmitted infections.

Occasional menstrual irregularity is not uncommon. No need to be concerned. After the period/ menstruation is over, start taking the pills from a new packet.

Summary of Medical Question:

Pennis related

Posted by:

babloo

I am 48 yrs old and play regularly and reasonably FIT. But, two months back while playing badminton my badminton racket struck with Pennis. I felt slight pain on the upper side of the Pennis after few days. Also, after a week of this incident, during entercourse once me & my partner were slightly volatile . Just spoken with Dr. and took Dolonex dt. 1 tab daily for 5 days and Serase K 3 tab daily for 5 days. I dont have any pain. But during erection of the pennis, its straightness has disturbed and and has become slightly curving. In normal condtion thers is no problem as such no pain during urination etc. I am slightly worried . is it serious ? Pl advice. I am continuing playing and all other activities . I am avoiding intercourse since then.

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

Normal penis is also not perfectly straight. It is slightly curved. As long as you can have normal intercourse there is no reason to worry.

What does it mean when you continue to bleed after your menstrual cycle has been over for almost a week? Is that a sign of a miscarriage? what do I do?

Occasional menstrual irregularity is not uncommon. If the bleeding continues, it would need to be investigated to identify the cause. If not relieved in a couple of days, you should consult a gynecologist.

Sudden Change In Taste of Sweet

Posted by:

gourmetmom

I have had a sudden change in taste--never use artificial or chemical sweeteners--suddenly all foods containing any real sugar at all taste sickeningly sweet, very disgusting. Anything that this may indicate in my health that I should check?

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

Certain drugs like metranidazole change the taste. Hope you are not taking any drug. Take light diet for a couple of days and if there is no relief, please get your blood sugar tested.

izzy`

I have been on the contraceptive pill Microgynon for 3 months. I have now been prescribed the pill Levlen ED. The pill i was on before only had the 21 beige pills which i took for consecutive days and than i had 7 days off so that i could have my period. The new pack has 7 Lactose pills which i haven't had before and im confused as to how to take this new pack. I was wondering if after my 7 days off from my last pack of Microgynon i can just start taking the beige pills and leave out the white ones completley as this is how i have been taking the pill for the last few months. Thank you

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

Immediately after the menstrual bleeding is over, you can start taking the new pills. It will continue for 21 days. After 21 days you have lactose/ placebo pills for 7 days when you can expect to have period.
