Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

In India we need to rule out malaria, dengue and typhoid. Blood test- smear for malarial paracite; blood culture for typhoid and blood test for dengue should be done. According to the test reports, medicines can be given. Please consult a paediatrician.

Summary of Medical Question:

Staph Indection

Posted by:

Jeff

I had a boil lanced, on the 9th of August. Samples came back positive for MRSA. Was prescribed Bactrim DS 800/160 on the 16th. Wound continued to worsen, went in the 18th to have wound open up and cleaned out (12 stiches) was given Vancomycin IV during surgery. Have continued the bactrim. Wound seems to be getting worse again (more puss coming out). I am seeing an infectious disease specialist on monday. What would you recommend?

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

The infection seems to be by a highly resistant organism. Please get the pus tested for culture and sensitivity and according to the test report, appropriate antibiotic should be given. The tests will have to be repeated after every few days and antibiotics will be adjusted according to each report.

Summary of Medical Question:

Lumps in fatty tissue?

Posted by:

anonymous

I have noticed tons of little lumps of various sizes under my skin which seem to be in fatty areas. I can feel them in the inner thigh, inner upper arm and upper stomach areas(from under breasts to above belly button). They do not hurt at all. Very concerned that they could be lymph nodes, although i do think there are way to many for that to be the case. I am hoping that fatty tissue just feels this way but am freaking my self out that this is not the cause. Please help!!

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

It could be neurofibroma for which there is no treatment. A biopsy can confirm the diagnosis. Please consult a surgeon/ neuro- surgeon.

Summary of Medical Question:

period

Posted by:

Stephanie

I'm 20 years old. I last had my period the last week in April. My next period due May 24th never came and it has not come since. I did have sex so I figured I was pregnant, since I spotted May 24. Took a half a dozen home tests and even went to the doctor to get a urine test and blood work to see if anything was causing problems in my body, all came back negative. August 18 I spotted and then August 20, today, I spotted again for about 1-2 hours. I don't know what it could be. My gyno appointment is not until September 7 so I am worried. My periods are normally regular and never late. They normally last a good 5-7 days, mostly lasting the full length. My mother thinks it could be a miscarriage but I have no idea. I was getting weird cravings back in June- July, gained some weight, was really exhausted all the time. The regular family doctor found nothing. I really do not know what this could be. Please help.
I have had my period since I was 9 years old so this is very very very odd for this to happen.

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

You can start taking oral contraceptive pills like ovral. They help in regulating menstruation. To diagnose the cause of the poblem investigations are needed- ultrasound lower abdome and dilatation, curettage with histopathology of scrappings need to be done. Your gynecologist will advice you on these.

Summary of Medical Question:

Chronic Abdominal Pain & Nausia

Posted by:

sameer

i, My Name is Sameer and sending this query on behalf of my father (Abdul Hafeez). My Father suffered from extreme Abdominal Pain 14 Years back and was admitted to Hospital for the Treatment. He was fit and fine. Since last 3 years he is being suffered from the same pain with an interval of 1 to 1-1/2 year. Like previous times, we conducted comprehensive tests as per the prescription of the Doctor. (I have the copies of all the medical reports and can share with you). As per the Medical reports, nothing is serious and found related to the problem as per the Doctor but he still has the Pain which comes and goes. We have to rush into the Emergency, whenever he has the pain and emergency treatment with pain killers and medicines like Flagyl and Lycofil is given. Ultra Sound report is also Normal. One thing, here is also important to mention i.e. Hemoglobin of my father dropped to 6 this time and we had to transfuse one bottle of the blood. Now his Hemoglobin is Near to 10. He cannot eat much, he feels hunger but cannot eat much, some times he vomits after taking only one bite. As per the medical reports, there is no infection in the Stomach as well. Medical reports will show better picture (Pls advise me the email address to share the medical reports).

Need your help in this regard, since we have visited almost every Gastroenterologist here but failed to diagnose the problem.

Awaiting your reply.

Thanks & regards

Sameer

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

If all test reports especially ultrasound and endoscopy are normal, not much can be done. Try probiotics- lactobacilli preparations (Neutrifit available in Mother dairy).

Summary of Medical Question:

yellow virginal discharge with metal smell

Posted by:

cay

I am a 32 year old woamn that had only 1 sexual partner, i have a yellow discharge with a metal smell but not at night only during the day. Please help me as I am very consious about smells and this is the first time I have something like this

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

It could be a sexually transmitted infection (STI). Take a single dose of tablet azithromycin 1gm stat and clotrimazole vaginal pills- one pill to be inserted deep in vagina twice daily for one week. If the discharge is not cured completely, you need to get a deep vaginal swab tested in a laboratory and consult a gynecologist. The partner should be treatd simultaneously. In future consider use of condoms to protect from STIs.

Stomach ache is not uncommon among children. Vitamin syrup is meaningless. If the pain is very recurrent, ultrasonography abdomen can be done to rule out any major problem. You may also give her medicine against intestinal worms. Please consult a paediatrician.

Summary of Medical Question:

Low energy

Posted by:

stressed and tired

I am in uni and have 3 assignments due next week. I have been struggling to finish them and have resorted to having less sleep so that I have more time to complete my assignments.

I have been drinking coffee to stay awake but am finding that it is not very effective anymore.

I am currently taking Olive Leaf Extract with Probiotics supplement. More info can be found here: http://www.rochway.com.au/index.php?pag_id=32

Last night I went to buy Blackmores Executive B Stress Formula vitamin: http://www.blackmores.com.au/products/executive-b-stress-formula

I am suffering from hyperthryoid and am on Carbimazole 10mg/day.

I'm wondering what can I do to have more energy and still be alert to complete my assignments? I don't really have much time during the day to do my assignments so I can only do them at night, and I usually cut my sleeping time to study.

And when is the best time to take my medicine as well as the Olive Leaf Extract and Executive B so that they are more effective and don't interact negatively with each other? (time of the day/before after meal etc; do I take them together in the morning or space them out etc?)

I also want to take Lecithin for memory and concentration as recommended by a nutritionist but I don't know if it will effect my hyperthyroid? And if I take Lecithin, when is the best time to take it since I'm also taking my medicine and supplements?

At the moment I have no time to exercise and feel that I am wasting time exercising since I'm rushing for my assignments. I also don't dare take naps because I have difficulty waking up and end up sleeping for a few hours. So I waste more time and don't get my assignment done.

Answer by FreeMedicalHelpline.com

There is no medicine that can reduce your sleep requirement or enhance your memory. Don't waste your time on useless medicines. You need to sleep for 6-7 hours a day. Eat less but nutritious diet. Take regular exercises and that's the only way to keep fit to complete your assignments. You need to understand the subject to complete the assignments faster. There are no short cuts. Seek help from a teacher or colleague.
